Once upon a time in the mid-nineties, a young slacker named Chris Cook got bored and decided to record a few silly songs on his crappy 4-track.
At the time, he did so with no regard as to how impossible it would be to ever play the songs with a band.
He then sold several copies of the cassette at the local record store and became a minor hit on the college radio station.
When Chris found himself with no other "serious" band to play in, he asked
drummer Paul Turpin and bass player Nathan Mitchell to join forces and play some of those cassette songs.
This trio became known as Mustard.
In
addition to a couple of cassette EP's, Mustard recorded and released a
full length cd, EUREKA GRANDE. Loaded with fan favorites
from their live shows such as "Roly-Poly" (which won the band $1000 in
a Jefferson County battle of the
bands contest) the album perfectly captured the essence of the Mustard
experience.
The band took the $1000 it had earned from the band contest and used it to start
recording their follow up album. They never finished it however and broke up not long
thereafter. Chris Cook went on to help found the
High
Score and Paul Turpin has done projects with
Stewart
Pack. Some of the songs from the unfinished album, as well as the
earlier cassettes, will probably show up here as free downloads at a later
time. Until then, Eureka Grande is the best place for the uninitiated
and the converted as well to "taste the Mustard!"
The album is available as a free download. Just click on the
songs and the artwork to download. The album artwork is 6.24MB. |
