Miniver is the proverbial ‘side project of a side
project’. Jim Rivers and Troy Tisue got together for a few
beers and ended up hitting the record button. After watching
previous projects dissolve into the ether (and because they were
already huge in Japan), they decided on a more suburban
effort.
Meeting over a few weeknights after beer-laden philosophical
rants, they actually did put pen to fret and worked a few of these
homeless riffs into something musical. Before long, they had a dozen
songs, were nearly out of beer, and thus the album was declared
‘finis’. Jim did drink beer prior to Miniver, but played a
good bit of music too. Previous stints in the Martini Age, French
Broads, and Econopop. Today he can be guitaring and playing
Keys in
the Vibraslaps, and wearing a wrestling singlet in the semi-annual
Queen tribute. Troy also drank beer before Miniver, but
nothing so closely tying those frothy hops to the big existential
questions. Troy was the frontman of former underground Iowa bands
‘The Nancies’, ‘East of Idaho’, and ‘tk421’ with Keith Russell.
There are several cameos from local musicians who stopped over for a
drink and ended up, albeit unknowingly, on the album. Aware
or not, a special thanks to John Baker (Econopop, French Broads),
Eric Nowinski (Angel & the Lovemongers, Vibraslaps), Jason White
(The Ghosts, Econopop) and Chris Hurt (French Broads). What they ended up with is a
collection of oddities... love songs for the Bipolars out
there. Enjoy.
